Restless vs Manus.
Manus is a polished AI workspace for handing off tasks and building things with an agent that can use a computer. Restless is an office for a team and its agents. Here's how they differ.
Manus was one of the first products to make "give an AI a computer and a task" feel real to normal people, and it's come a long way since. It's a natural thing to compare Restless against, because both give agents a computer to work on. The difference is mostly who's in the room and how long the work lives.
What Manus is
Manus describes its workspace as somewhere you and AI build together: websites, videos, games, working alongside your own files and tools. You delegate a task and the agent goes off and does it.
The desktop app (macOS on Apple silicon, and Windows) lets Manus work directly with your local files, folders and tools. With Computer Use it runs in its own workspace on your computer while you keep working in yours, and you can give it voice instructions from your phone and pick the work back up on desktop. It's a hosted product with a mobile app as well.
Where Manus is great
Manus is the better pick if you want:
- To hand off a self-contained task and get a finished thing back, with no setup.
- An agent that can work with your own local files and apps.
- To kick work off from your phone and check on it later.
- A polished, consumer-grade experience today.
Where Restless is different
Manus is shaped around you delegating to an agent. Restless is shaped around a small company working together.
- A team, not a single delegator. Your cofounder, designer and reviewer work in the same company as the agents, with their own accounts, rooms and permissions.
- Outcomes that outlive a task. Goals have an accountable owner and survive model swaps, restarts and handoffs. The work board shows what's waiting on what.
- A company computer, not your computer. Each company gets its own persistent Linux machine, separate from your laptop, that you can step into and take over.
- Authority in code. Permissions, spending limits, a credentials vault and receipts for every action taken out in the world.
- Open source and self-hosted, with any model you like: Codex, Claude Code or any API provider.
Honest trade-offs
Manus is far more polished for one person getting a task done, and it runs on the devices you already use. Restless asks you to run Docker (or wait for the hosted beta), it's a development preview, and it's built for ongoing team work rather than quick one-off delegation. If you just want something built this afternoon, Manus is the faster route.
