Restless vs Lindy.
Lindy is a hosted AI teammate wired into your email, meetings and team tools. Restless is a self-hosted office where your team and agents work on the output together.
Lindy is one of the more polished "AI teammate" products around, and it's aimed at a lot of the same people I am: small teams who want AI to take work off their plate. But the two products make very different bets about where that work happens.
What Lindy is
Lindy is an AI teammate you chat with. It takes your requests as tasks and shows you what it's been doing. It has its own email address and phone number, joins your video meetings and sends recaps, and connects to your email, calendar, Slack and other tools to surface action items.
It runs recurring routines on a schedule, and personal routines can become scripts that finish quietly, wake Lindy up when judgement is needed or kick off a repair when something fails. I really like that part, because it's the same instinct as keeping routine work away from the model. There are team files with version history, reusable team skills (rolling out gradually, per its docs), and artifacts that include hosted interactive pages.
Usage is measured in pooled credits with per-member caps. It's a hosted service.
Where Lindy is great
Lindy is the better pick if you want:
- An assistant deeply wired into email, calendar and meetings, today, with no setup.
- Meeting recaps and action items pulled from everywhere you work.
- A hosted product where someone else runs the infrastructure.
- A visual workflow builder for repeatable automations.
Where Restless is different
The bets are different in a few specific ways:
- You run it. Restless is open source and self-hosted (Apache 2.0), with a hosted version in private beta. Your company's computer, files and history live where you put them.
- Bring your own models. Agents run on Codex, Claude Code or any API provider or OpenAI-compatible gateway, chosen per agent.
- A real company computer. Each company gets a persistent Linux machine with Git, a browser and a desktop you can take over, so agents can build and test actual software and sites.
- Work on the output together. Live co-edited documents, comments on a passage, and review of the exact version that was checked.
- Spending limits you set per company or agent, alongside a vault and a record of every action taken out in the world.
Honest trade-offs
Lindy is much further along as a product for everyday business admin. It already lives in your inbox and meetings, and Restless doesn't try to. Restless has no visual workflow builder on purpose (repeatable automation lives in the company's own scripts), and it's a development preview you need Docker to run.
If your work is mostly email, scheduling and meetings, Lindy is probably the faster win. If it's producing things, like documents, builds, sites and research, with a team that wants to own its setup, that's where Restless fits.
