Focus on your craft. Save the grunt work for AI.

Today we're launching Restless: a place where you and your team, human and AI, run a business together.

I kept asking myself what the future looks like if AI takes over a lot of jobs, and whether we'll need humans at all. My answer is yes. In every business and every project, humans need to be at the centre, giving direction and taste. AI can take over the mundane grunt work that isn't central to the business.

Today we're launching Restless: a place where you and your team, human and AI, run a business together.

Why I built it

Marketing and sales used to be a total nightmare for me. I didn't have the energy or the time to prospect and reach out to a bunch of strangers about what I was trying to do. Handing that whole pipeline to a team of agents running on a schedule has pushed my business forward, and let me focus on the quality of the core product.

I also kept copying and pasting the same AI output to other people. Are AI really first-class teammates if we can't all talk to the same one? Right now they're assistants paired to each employee. I believe they should be real, persistent teammates in a real workspace.

I tried the tools that exist. I found them confusing to use and buggy, and they couldn't fill the complex sales and marketing roles I needed. So I built Restless.

The timing is right. AI agents are getting cheaper and more capable every month, and they can now work toward a goal on their own for hours. That needs a better way for people to direct them, and for several people to work with the same agents at once.

What Restless is

Restless is a space where you and your friends work on the project you've always dreamed about. You hand the chores around the core work to AI: sales, promotion, basic legal work, hiring other businesses. If you run a YouTube channel, you just make the videos. Restless handles the subtitles, cuts the shorts and posts them to every platform.

You're the CEO. The AI is your Exec and Staff, not an assistant. They don't just help one person with small tasks. You treat them like a real team, hand off big pieces of work, and they get on with it under your oversight.

And they have real freedom. The Exec composes its own teams and runs its own Linux computer, so it can do anything that can be done on a computer. Ask it to make a game and it downloads Godot and starts building.

What it has done

I asked my company to find me 50 sales prospects that fit my ideal customer. The Exec set up a team of two: one to search for candidates, one to check each was still a real fit. They scanned hundreds of prospects and brought back the best 50 in about two hours.

What surprised me most: a strong Exec is remarkably good at coordinating the team below it.

It hasn't all been smooth. Scheduled work was the hardest part to get right. A plain timer kept hitting problems, and the schedule never really ran properly. So we replaced it with a trigger that simply wakes the company, and lets it decide what to do and work around problems itself, instead of following a fixed script.

None of this is about slacking off. It's about saving your time for what matters. If you're an artist, that's drawing. If you're a musician, it's songwriting.

Why you can trust it

Restless keeps a record of everything it does, like a receipt when you go shopping. It stays free to take on hard tasks its own way, and if something goes wrong you can trace exactly what happened and fix it.

Big decisions come to you. Anything with real consequences, like spending money, contacting someone new or signing up for something, comes to your Inbox before it happens. Just like in a real business, the company slows down and asks the owner.

Getting this balance was the hardest decision in building Restless. At first I wanted every action controlled and gated. That made it far too complex, and it stopped the company being flexible and powerful. Receipts give you both.

Your data stays yours. Every company gets its own computer and its own vault for passwords and keys, kept separate from everyone else's.

Who it's for

Restless is for the person who wants to bring their own taste and judgement to their business. You focus on the value only you provide and point the way. AI does the rest, and stays out of the way so the work never turns into slop. It's also for people who want real teamwork, with other humans and with AI teammates.

The AI teams aren't there to make up the numbers. They follow real principles of how good organisations work, and we test and benchmark them so the work gets better, not just bigger.

Getting started

On day one, your Exec sets up the company for you. Minimum effort on your part.

What's next

A wider marketplace and plugin support. I want Restless to be as powerful as possible as a shared digital space where people do their work.
